Tiancai (天菜)

Tiancai (天菜) builds on a tasty bit of Chinese slang: cai (菜, “dish”) means one’s type, as in “he’s my dish.” Add tian (天, “heaven”) and you get “a dish made in heaven for me” — the person who matches your taste so exactly they might have been custom-ordered. The word took off in Taiwan’s queer community and variety shows, then escaped the community entirely; today it is general Chinese internet slang that straight friends use daily.

Usage is simple: “He is completely my tiancai.” “My tiancai just walked in and I froze.” A companion coinage is caixi (菜系, “cuisine”) — your overall taste profile. One person’s cuisine runs to the burly bear type, another’s to bookish or athletic; no palate outranks another.
