Digital safety guide
If you browse this site where family, school or colleagues might see your screen or device, this page shows how to minimize traces. We will also be honest about which traces no website can clear for you.
Three tools this site provides
- Quick exit —the button in the top-right corner, or pressing Esc three times within 2 seconds: the page immediately jumps to a neutral weather site and replaces the current page in the back-button stack.Honest limitation: it only replaces the current entry in the back-button stack. This visit (and pages you viewed earlier) may still appear in the browser’s history list — that is how browsers work and no site can bypass it; only private/incognito mode leaves no history at all.
- Discreet mode —toggle it in the “Aa” menu and this tab’s title and icon disguise themselves as “Study notes,” so a glance at the tab bar reveals little. It applies to the current tab only and resets when the tab closes.
- One-click data wipe —the footer’s “Clear all site data” removes everything this site wrote to this browser (quiz progress, saved results, preferences).
Three habits that matter more than tools
- Incognito / private mode —on shared or monitored devices, the most reliable approach is a private window (Chrome: ⌘/Ctrl+Shift+N; Safari: ⌘Shift+N; Firefox: ⌘/Ctrl+Shift+P). When the window closes, history and storage vanish together.
- Choose “don’t remember” for quizzes —this is the default on this site: close the page and it forgets. On a shared family computer, a saved result is discoverable evidence. (One caveat: some browsers’ “reopen closed tab” can briefly restore a just-closed page’s state — private windows don’t have this issue.)
- Watch out for browser sync —if the browser is signed into an account that syncs history (and someone else shares that account), history follows you to other devices. Private mode avoids this too.
If your situation is more serious
If you face device confiscation, forced phone checks, or threats of being sent for “correction”: put physical safety first, leave as few traces as possible on controlled devices, and consider using a trusted friend’s or public device. See the support directory for places to reach out.
